Packaging

While the Hellvape packaging is rather simplistic and mundane. Nonetheless it features Celtic knot styling and a fattened version of the dead rabbit logo. As a result the packaging is instantly recognisable as belonging to the Dead Rabbit family of vape products from Hellvape. Furthermore on the sides are some social media icons and on the back are key features, and the box contents.

However upon removing the outer TPD sleeving reveals an inner box, with a transparent window showing the Hellvape Fat Rabbit sub ohm tank. But below the window is listed as containing both the 2 and 5 ml glass tanks. Sadly however this isn't the case due to TPD restrictions. But disspointly there is no spare 2ml glass either. Furthermore when opening the tightly fitting box the Fat Rabbit tank is ready to hand with the 0.2Ω coil pre-fitted. Additionally sat next to the Fat Rabbit sub ohm mesh tank, is a box containing the spares and the quad core 0.15Ω coil. While sat underneath the inlay is a rather nicely laid out instruction guide.

Build quality

Without a doubt the Fat Rabbit sub ohm tank from Hellvape is a heavy and extremely sturdy tank. Moreover the tank feels ready to take on the everyday abuse from being out and about. Furthermore the base of the tank has a diameter of 25mm, chamfered down from the 28mm width of the main tank section. Consequentially the mod looks best on a wider and sturdier mod. Additionally the use of an anti-bacterial drip tip is a nice touch, that many will appreciate.

Importantly the machining throughout the Hellvape Fat Rabbit is well done, with nice deep knurling on both the top and bottom airflow control rings. Furthermore the threading for both the base deck and top cap glide on nicely. Although due to the large o-rings the base deck can at times not connect every time. Nonetheless all the o-rings and gaskets on the Fat Rabbit are beefy and gives a very reassuring seal. However condensation does build up in the base, so best close the airflow control rings when not in use and moving around.

Additionally the airflow inlets are cleanly cut with no burring. Although the airflow control rings are a little stiff, they do however move smoothly. Furthermore the airflow design is a little different with the Fat Rabbit. While the Hellvape Fat Rabbit is purely a bottom fed airflow design. However the top airflow comes down the walls of the chimney, joining the bottom airflow inlets to feed the coils from the bottom.

Dimensions

Dimensionally the Hellvape Fat Rabbit stands 46mm from the base of the tank to the top of the drip tip. Where the diameter alters from 25mm at the base to 28mm for the main tank section.

Functionality

While it is fair to say that most stock coil tanks offer little in the way of end user functionality. However the Fat Rabbit from Hellvape offers more airflow options than most stock coil tanks. But more on that in a bit.

Refilling

While having to remove the top cap completely to refill the Hellvape Fat Rabbit, may seem old fashioned for some. However it as one great advantage, there is much larger refilling holes for larger nibbed bottles. Moreover with larger nibbed bottles the refilling of the Fat Rabbit literally takes seconds. But if out and about, you will probably need to carry some tissue to place the top cap into, whilst refilling.

Airflow

Without a doubt the Hellvape Fat Rabbit has plenty of airflow, and while it is a little noisy, there are some single coil RTA's out in the market that are just as noisy. Importantly there is no whistling from closing down either of the airflow control rings, and the airflow itself remains smooth and turbulent free. However the Fat Rabbit is quieter with the quad core coil.

Coil Replacement

While changing the coils on the Hellvape Fat Rabbit tank is a simple tasking. However it is not a PnP style system as seen on many other stock coil tanks. Consequentially you can not swap out the coil with e-liquid remaining in the tank. Which is a little disappointing. As typically with me a certain Sod's law comes into play and with any coil and tank setup, the coils always go for me after I have just filled the tank. Nonetheless the wicking ability on both the single mesh and quad core mesh coils for the Hellvape Fat Rabbit is good, with little break-in time.

Hellcoil H7-02 Single Mesh 0.2Ω Coil

Rated as an 80W coil, the Hellcoil 0.2Ω is over rated. Moreover while you can happily vape at 80W. But above 70W the flavour drops sharply. Nonetheless while the flavour is not mind blowing, it does provide a reasonable flavour profile for fruits and the break-in time is very short. Furthermore due to the large surface area of the single coil, flavour is additionally lost if either or both of the airflow control rings are closed down.

Without a doubt while the single mesh 0.2Ω coil for the Hellvape Fat Rabbit is more about the clouds than flavour. Nonetheless the cloud production from even 60W is impressive. If only there was more flavour condensed within all that vapour.

But longevity of the 0.2Ω coil is probably the best I have seen from a stock coil. Furthermore thanks to the large gaps within the meshed area, sweet e-liquids take a lot longer to clog up the mesh. Moreover the coil is easily lasting four times longer than other stock coils and is still going strong.

Hellcoil Quad OCC Coil 0.15Ω Coil

Where as the 0.2Ω single mesh coil can be constantly chained vaped, the quad coil prefers not to be. Moreover more than four vapes in a row and the flavour profile drops. Nonetheless the Hellcoil Quad coil produces a better flavour profile over the single mesh. However while creams are better produced they are still not mind blowing. But fruits are better produced with a greater tonality range. Interestingly as previously mentioned the quad coil is quieter then the mesh coil. Additionally closing the airflow even by a quarter on both airflow control rings quietens this down further. But even at 65W the vape immediately begins to become warmer.

Niggles

While there is little complaint with the Hellvape Fat Rabbit sub ohm tank, there is a few niggles. Firstly and most importantly is the lack of a spare glass for the TPD version. Moreover as a TPD version, we expect not to have the 5ml bubble glass. But in todays market not to supply a spare glass shows little thought for those purchasing the 2ml TPD variant. Secondly not being able to replace the coil while there is still remaining e-liquid can be at times a pain, and reduces the tanks ease ability.

Summary

Without a doubt the Hellvape Fat Rabbit sub ohm tank is a truly robust and well made tank, that should withstand the rigours of vaping whilst out and about with ease. While the lack of a spare glass for the TPD version is bitterly disappointing. Nonetheless with the exception of coil replacement, the tank is easy to use and produces a surprising amount of vapour. However clouds aren't everything and the flavour on the 0.2Ω single mesh coil is washed out. But the 0.15Ω quad core coil brings better flavour, especially with fruits with a greater tonality range.
