While the Vaporesso GTX One is geared up primarily for MTL vaping, the GEN NANO kit opens this up even further. Moreover with an 80W internal battery mod and the GTX 22mm tank, users now have access to the higher ohm coils. Such as the flavourful GTX 0.2Ω coil. But is the 22mm tank solely for DTL vaping? How does the kit perform? Let’s find out and delve deeper into this review of the Vaporesso GEN NANO.
Below is a quick breakdown of what you may expect to see included with the Vaporesso GEN NANO kit.
Vaporesso GEN NANO Contents
1x Vaporesso GEN NANO Mod
1x Vaporesso GEN NANO Bubble Tank 22 3.5ml (TPD 2ml)
1x GTX 0.2Ω Mesh Coil
1x GTX 0.6Ω Mesh Coil
1x 2ml Straight Glass Tube
1x Bag of Spare O-Rings
1x Micro Type B USB cable
1x User Manual
Typical of the packaging style of Vaporesso, the packagings colour and imagery reflects the chosen colour option for the Vaporesso GEN NANO. Although on the review sample packaging the colour of the 22mm tank doesn’t match the enclosed colour option. But on the final release version the colours will match. Nonetheless on the front the laminated image of the GEN NANO kit takes up most of the space. While the sides show key elements of the Vaporesso GEN NANO in icon form. Additionally on the back is the specifications, contents, governmental compliance logos, health warnings and authenticity checker.
Removing the lid reveals the Vaporesso GEN NANO with the tank and 0.2Ω mesh coil pre-fitted, sat within its plastic inlay. While not included with the review sample, the spare glass and spare o-rings would sit alongside the mod and tank. Additionally underneath the inlay are the Micro Type B USB cable, GTX 0.6Ω Mesh coil and user manual.
Without a doubt the Vaporesso GEN NANO is a smart looking and lightweight kit. Moreover the dimpled rubber coated side panels grip very well, while the colour gradient matches the rest of the plastic mod.
While the Vaporesso GEN NANO with a full tank of e-liquid weighs in at only 140.6g, the mod remains sturdy in the hand. However while I am certain the kit will hold up to daily use. But because of its plastic nature, extra care should be taken not to drop the GEN NANO.
Importantly the side mounted Micro Type B USB port is placed well on the side making charging and monitoring levels easy.
Naturally as the mod is formed from one larger section the from fascia is nice and clean. Although the use of a third button to operate the menu, is in my personal opinion unneeded and doesn’t improve end user experience. Nonetheless all the buttons are audible and responsive.
Furthermore the LCD screen is easy to read with its crisp display. But the layout of the screen is a little cramped and the smaller readouts may be difficult for those with eye sight issues.
While the Vaporesso GEN NANO happily holds a 22mm tank, the 510 plate is not perfectly central. Consequentially anything more than 23mm will overlap on one side. Importantly the threading is well cut and silky smooth, with the 510 centre pin offers a good level of stiffness. Which gives some confidence in its long term use. Furthermore the centre pin appears to have a throw of approximately 2-3mm, which is good to see.
GTX 22 Tank
Visually the Vaporesso GTX 22 tank is finished in a similar tone of red to the mod. Importantly as this is a review sample, the white Vaporesso logo will change to a creamy gold to match the markings on the mod. Nonetheless the cleanly cut exterior features plenty of knurling to aid adjustments and removal.
Importantly the well cut threading on the top cap and base threads on and off smoothly. While the airflow control ring with its cleanly cut airflow inlet glides effortlessly, yet remains resolute in its position.
Dimensionally the Vaporesso GEN NANO with the tank fitted stands 115mm tall from the base of the mod to the top of the drip tip. Furthermore the GEN NANO mod is 24.2mm wide and 40.3mm deep from front to back.
Turning on the Vaporesso GEN NANO is via the customary 5 clicks of the fire button. Additionally pressing the fire button quickly three times locks the GEN NANO. Preventing the settings from being accidentally changed. To unlock repeat the process.
Naturally holding the additional menu button opens the settings menu. Allowing the user to change the vape mode of the GEN NANO. However to enter and store the changes the menu button is used instead of the fire button.
As previously mentioned access to the various modes is via holding the menu button. Once inside the settings menu, you have access to the various vape modes available on the Vaporesso GEN NANO. Additionally there are no restrictions on the selectable power outputs such as the wattage mode.
Pulse Mode – Default
While designed to optimise the vape experience by pulsating the power output. Thus in theory, maintaining the temperature of the vape for a perfect experience. However the effect on the vape is hardly noticeable.
Designed to automatically kick in when the battery drops below 40% and unable to support the current power output. While this does improve battery life slightly, depending on coil it is at a cost to flavour.
Without a doubt temperature control modes are like the Marmite of the vaping world, you either love it or don’t. Nonetheless when a Stainless Steel, Titanium or Nickel coil is detected. The Vaporesso GEN Nano can be set to automatically enter the Temperature Control mode.
Within the DIY Mode on the Vaporesso GEN NANO are the more common vape modes.
VW – Variable Wattage Soft, Normal, High
From within the VW mode the initial power is settable. For instance if you want the vape to produce a quicker and warmer start and then default back to the set wattage, you would select the H mode. Regardless of the selected option, the wattage mode remains adjustable in 0.5 watt increments.
VV – Variable Voltage
Similar in methodology of the VW mode, whereas wattage is used in controlling the output. Instead voltage is used as the method of controlling the power output and there is no soft, normal, or high options.
CCW – Custom Curve of Wattage
Similar in notion to the soft, normal, or high option within the wattage mode. However with the use of time, a tailored adjustment of the wattage can be made. Moreover each wattage bar within the curve lasts for 0.5s and the wattage for each is user determined. Allowing for a more tailored experience. For example if so desired you could have the Vaporesso GEN NANO turn on and off completely ever other second. Additionally the mod could produce a more smooth linear curve tailored perfectly to the coil and flavour profile of the e-liquid.
A form of protected mech mod mode. Moreover the coil receives the power output from the remaining battery voltage.
Super Player Mode
Not for the inexperienced vaper. Moreover the Super Player Mode opens the allowable resistance range for coils. Moreover the resistance range of 0.15Ω to 5Ω is for use with RTA, or RDA tanks fitted to the Vaporesso GEN NANO.
Within the system set menu on the Vaporesso GEN NANO are some expected options such as screen brightness, screen orientation and more. Additionally within the system set option is the rather oddly located Smart Variable Wattage mode.
Smart VW – Smart Variable Wattage
Without a doubt the Smart VW mode appears to produce a slightly warmer vape regardless of setting.
While the Vaporesso GEN NANO features an internal 2000 mAh battery, battery economy is good and as expected with the enclosed coils. Naturally battery life is shorter when using the GTX 0.2Ω coil at around 50W. Nonetheless with the 0.2Ω coil, you can expect around 160-180 puffs between charges.
Despite specified with a charging rate of 5V 2A via the Micro Type B USB cable connector. However I could only get the Vaporesso GEN NANO to charge at 5.12V 1.33A, which is disappointing.
Nonetheless a nice feature of the Vaporesso GEN NANO is the estimated recharging time. Which is displayed alongside the animated icon and current battery levels. Additionally if the need arises the GEN NANO will stop charging if you require a quick vape. Then continues to charge again after the fire button is released.
While the method of removing the entire top cap and refilling is super easy on the Vaporesso GTX Tank 22. However it can become messy and would have liked to have seen either a bayonet or a push back style of top cap. Moreover at times when unscrewing the top cap, the tank can start to unscrew itself. Consequentially the tank needs to be retightened while on the mod. Which can cause the tank to become tightly screwed to the device, and difficult to remove. Nonetheless an advantage of removing the top cap is that any size e-liquid bottle can be used.
While the airflow design of the Vaporesso GTX Tank 22 is more tailored to DTL vaping. Nonetheless the airflow can be closed down to provide a much tighter draw, perfect for the MTL coil range. Regardless of the smooth moving airflow control rings position, the vape remains smooth with no turbulence.
Despite using more of a traditional tank, the Vaporesso GTX Tank 22 remains as easy to change coils as any of the Vaporesso pod systems. Moreover the changing of the coil remains a “Plug N Play” method of inserting. However you still can not change the coil with much e-liquid remaining. Nonetheless with the old coil removed, prime the new coil by placing a little e-liquid down into the coil, and a drop onto each wicking hole. Now pop the new coil into the pod and refill if need be. Additionally leave the coil to sit for a while to ensure it becomes suitably saturated. Typically I like to leave it 10 – 15 minutes, then vape.
GTX 0.2Ω Mesh Coil 45W-60W
Without a doubt wicking not the GTX 0.2Ω coils is good and easily handles chain vaping. Furthermore flavour from these coils are superb, with a wide range of tonality. Moreover Lemon Meringue comes out beautifully with a nice mellow after taste. While a Custard Slice comes through rich and creamy. All while vaping between 48.5-50W.
GTX 0.6Ω Mesh Coil 20W-30W
While the the GTX 0.6Ω Mesh coil takes a little while to break in. Nonetheless it produces a good vape with fruits coming through well. Especially Mango flavoured e-liquids. However the flavour while good is not to the same level as the GTX 0.2Ω coil.
Chipset and Protection
Powered by an unspecified chipset, the Vaporesso GEN NANO mod offers the following levels of protection.
- Overtime Protection 10s – Protects against continued accidental firing.
- Overheat Protection – Protects the internal PCBA of the mod.
- No Load Protection – Prevents firing when no tank if fitted.
- Short-circuit protection – A form of over current protection.
- Low Battery Protection – Prevents the battery levels dropping to a point of no return.
- USB Input Protection – Prevents high voltage damage by stopping the charging process.
However it is odd that there is no mention of either low or high resistance protection, nor over discharge or charging protection.

Similar to the MTL GTX 18 tank the GTX 22 suffers from the same old style and messy refilling method of removing the entire top cap. Consequentially making refilling the GTX 22 awkward when out and about. Especially as it often causes the tank to un-tighten itself, forcing the user to screw the tank back up more.
Finally the additional menu button to operate the settings on the Vaporesso GEN NANO is needless and doesn’t improve user interaction or usability of the device. However this is personal preference and others may like the additional menu button.
Without a doubt the Vaporesso GEN NANO is a lightweight mod that offers plenty of functionality to keep all levels of vapers happy. While the 80W output from the 2000 mAh internal battery is enough to serve the needs of many vapers. Especially when using the GTX 22 tank and coils enclosed in the kit. Furthermore the GEN NANO will likely to remain in use with future purchases of tanks, be they stock coil, RTAs or RDAs.
