Voopoo’s Drag line up is well renowned for its Gene Chips and particular style of the Drag mods. The Drag Baby Trio is the latest addition, with the new Gene Trio chip adding to the lineup. Additionally housing a 1500 mAh internal battery, whilst utilising PnP coils in an All In One vape kit. Furthermore it is super lightweight with Mouth To Lung or Direct To Lung coil options, in a trio of coils 0.6Ω, 0.8Ω, and 1.2 Ω.

Like the Drag Nano, the Drag Baby Trio comes in a TPD and a Standard Edition. Similarly for the first 500,000, there is also a Fans version which contains a free necklace for the Drag Baby Trio.

*Tip – When placing the necklace on use masking tape around the Baby Trio so it doesn’t get scratched as it a little tight getting the hoop on.

The packaging I received is the usual white packaging with a simple layout making it easy to read. Incorporating the usual social media branding on the side, QR code for technical support. Furthermore on the back of the packaging, we have the description of the contents, usual health warnings, and the scratch and check authenticity.

Inside the box, you are greeted with the Voopoo Drag Baby, the glass tube (Tank in other words), and a spare glass. Additionally, underneath the first layer we have a white box containing the two PnP coils for the Drag Baby. Furthermore is the included silver coloured chain (Fans Version) and the USB cable. Also included was the usual envelope with the little user guide, GENE CHIP card, and warranty card.

Build quality

While still having good build quality, the Drag Baby Trio doesn’t feel as hefty or as solid like other members of its family. Despite this the Drag Baby does not fall short, and still feels sturdy for a small and lightweight All In One.

Weighing in a 20 grams the Drag Baby Trio stands 101.5 mm tall, 35 mm across and 21.5 mm deep with the glass tube on. Additionally the Drag Baby is lighter than the Drag Nano Pod.

From a personal point of view, the tweak of the typical Drag design works extremely well with this little AIO, and gives it a slightly fresher feel to it. Besides with a device the size of the Voopoo Drag Baby Trio and with an internal battery, any extra weight or size wouldn’t have worked as well. In short Voopoo got it spot on for gauging the size, and quality of the Drag Baby Trio.

While there is not too much in the way of changeable functionality in the sense of features such as power output. Functionality of the Drag Baby Trio as an All In One is perfect. Merely seconds to change over your coil, by removing the tank upside down and seconds again to top up.

Despite the small capacity, the juice in the tank lasts a respectable amount of time even with the 0.6Ω coil. Just like the FINIC 16, and FINIC 20 from Voopoo the refill holes are the same style of gasket type. Along with the style of unscrewing the mouthpiece top lid to locate them. However the refill holes are smallish don’t expect fill the Drag Baby up with some medium to large sized bottles, you will just be in a mess.

5 clicks powers up the Drag Baby Trio, and vape by pressing the fire button, super simple. Additionally the LED above the USB charge port, gives an indication of the current state of charge.

Green is 60% or more power left, Blue is 20% – 60% power and Red is less than 20% power remaining.

Performance from the internal 1500 mAh battery is good, lasting a respectable amount of time. Moreover in a week of regular use, I have only charged the Drag Baby twice; with a full charge again in about an hour and forty minutes.

Gene Trio

Now being a member of the Drag family, of course the Drag Baby Trio is going to have a GENE Chip inside. Just like the Drag Nano the GENE Trio chipset the inside Voopoo’s Drag Baby Trio offers five safety features.

  • 10s time out to protect against coil burn out.
  • Short circuit protection to protect the battery.
  • Protection from overcharging the battery.
  • Discharge battery protection so your battery does not get too low and becomes unusable.
  • Finally output over protection, to ensure your output stays within limits to the needs of the Drag Baby Trio, protecting you and the All In One.

The Drag Baby Trio from Voopoo is a great little All In One. Without a doubt, I just love the size and feel of the Drag Baby in the hand. Intrinsically it remains comfortable unless in certain positions, then the necklace loop sadly gets in the way.

Featured with a 1500 mAh internal battery the performance and longevity of the Drag Baby Trio is above what I was expecting. Additionally its size and weight would be not only perfect for someone new to vaping. But also experienced vapours going out for a few hours and needing something discreet. Especially when the you consider the quick coil change of the PnP coils literally can take seconds.

One thing that baffles me is why a different coil for TPD (MTL 0.8 Ω) and DTL (0.6 Ω Mesh) for non-TPD. Perhaps with the PnP-M2 the volume increases slightly above the 2 ml TPD requirement.

DTL PnP-M2 0.6 Ω Mesh Coil

The PnP-M2 0.6 Ω coil wicks 70 VG extremely happily and not a hint of a dry hit, whilst chain vaping so brilliant. However, whilst the flavour is not bad at all for an All In One, don’t be expecting super quality of flavour like the MAAT Tank. Albeit the vapour production is quite reasonable from the Drag Baby, furthermore the flavour from each vape continues to improve. Additionally at this time the original PnP-M2 is still going and improving with each vape.

You can tease some extra flavour out of the PnP-M2 0.6 Ω coil by giving some sharp pulls whilst vaping, its gives a slightly more saturated vape. Just like pod kits and most of the All In One kits, the flavours tend to lean towards mostly fruits and some creams.

MTL PnP-C1 1.2 Ω Ceramic Coil

The PnP-C1 is a ceramic coil with an apparent good flavour profile.

Why, apparent?

Despite my best efforts the PnP-C1 did not want play ball. Started off with good flavour on the first half a tank, and then dry hits every 2nd pull. However leaving the coil to sit for a while would cause the PnP-C1 to be slightly flooded then after four pulls even small ones would result in another dry hit. So the cycle would continue, until I got fed up with it and removed the coil, placing back the PnP-M, which is still going strong. In summary I can only presume that I got a naff coil.

Further more the PnP-C1 has one major problem or to be more precise, the Drag Baby has a problem when using the 1.2 Ω coil. There is an annoying high pitch whine when using the PnP-C1, presumably a result of pulses reducing output. But perhaps, there is something wrong with the coil, and it is causing the noise. There is no way for me to tell.

Forgetting the faulty coil side of things, disappointing as it was. It can happen to any vape device, but without spare coils I am unable to test further. However that noise level being produced with the 1.2 Ω coil, it remains surprising that it has not been addressed.

Consequently this does however amount to an unusable aspect of the Drag Baby Trio for myself. Until this point the Drag Baby Trio has been stellar and as a result brings a huge dampener on the Drag Baby Trio. Couple the faulty coil with the noise buzzing whining noise, it ultimately affects the build quality points for the Drag Baby. If not for these issues the build quality of the Drag Baby Trio is great and would have been 9 out of 10.

Trying to refill the Drag Baby Trio with medium or larger sized bottles, quickly becomes difficult or impossible. As a result of the smaller refill holes, larger holes would have stopped this issue.

Personally I would have preferred an interchangeable 510, and feel a shorter mouthpiece would produce better flavour out of the 0.6 Ω mesh coil. Additionally I would also have preferred not to have seen the necklace hoop on the Voopoo Drag Baby Trio. In contrast to the Drag Nano, I believe it’s too big to have around your neck and gets in the way when vaping in certain ways.
